Study links instant coffee to higher dry AMD risk, raising concerns over a common daily habit
Instant coffee has long been a staple in many households thanks to its convenience, affordability, and speed. However, new research is raising questions about this everyday habit after suggesting a possible link between instant coffee consumption and an increased risk of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
AMD is a progressive eye condition that affects central vision, making everyday activities such as reading, driving, watching television, and recognizing faces more challenging.
According to the NHS, while AMD rarely leads to complete blindness, it can significantly impair central eyesight. Notably, the recent study found that the association was specific to instant coffee, with no similar link observed for ground or decaffeinated varieties.
